Structure, Microstructure, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Properties Ni-Mn-Zn Ferrite Produced by Glycine-Nitrate Process

Abstract

      In this study, nanocrystalline Ni-Mn-Zn ferrites with the chemical composition of
Mn0.5-xNixZn0.5Fe2O4 (where x= 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0,4, 0.5) were synthesized by glycine nitrate process using glycine as a fuel and nitrate as an oxidizer. The as-synthesized powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction technique. X-ray diffraction data showed that nanocrystalline Ni-Mn-Zn ferrites powders with spinel structure have been formed successfully in the all samples. Morphological studies using field emission scanning electron microscopy showed agglomerated clusters with a lot of pores attributed to the large amount of gases released during the combustion synthesis with a particle size in the range of 28-50 nm. The magnetic and electromagnetic measurements on the as-synthesized powders and the compacted samples were carried out using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and an inductance/capacitance/resistance meter (LCR meter), respectively. Saturation magnetization and magnetic permeability decrease with the increase in Ni ion content.
